Who Was Guru Gobind Singh?
Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth and last living guru of the Sikhs, was one of the most revered, important, and erudite gurus. He was not only a Guru, but also a warrior who defended Sikhism by fighting off enemies. In addition to being a heavenly philosopher and spiritual leader, he was also a divine philosopher. Guru Govind Singh inspired faith and was instrumental in the formation of Khalsa, Sikhism’s forerunner. He succeeded his father Guru Tegh Bahadur, who was martyred while defending religious freedom, when he was nine years old. He belonged to Guru Gobind Singh’s hallowed lineage of Sikh Gurus, and he was the final Sikh leader because all four of Guru Gobind Singh’s sons were martyred.
Why Do We Celebrate Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti?
Guru Gobind Singh battled for justice and stood firm against the Mughals during his lifetime. In the year 1699, he baptised five people from the lower castes and announced that they were all his adored. He bestowed upon them courage, intelligence, and a deep love for God. He instilled in them the value of bravery and devotion to the Almighty, who protects all downtrodden people. He founded the Khalsa, a renowned military army made up of saint-soldiers.
Under Guru Gobind Singh’s direction, inspiration, and guidance, the Khalsa adhered to a stringent spiritual discipline as well as a moral code. People bravely fought against the oppression of Mughal rulers as a result of his heroism. Guru Gobind Singh was a renowned poet and writer who produced large literary and scholastic works in addition to being a military leader and spiritual figure. Prior to his death in 1708, he declared the Guru Granth Sahib, a holy scripture of Sikhism, to be the permanent Sikh Guru.
